Grievance Procedures

If you have suggestions or complaints, please do not run straight to the Principal or write directly to the Board of Trustees. You should do your utmost to find satisfaction where the problem occurs and only work your way up the system if each succeeding level fails you. Hopefully, you will never need the full scope of the grievance procedure, but just in case, it is as follows:

1. The student should seek an informal discussion with the course-lecturer or staff person involved.

2. If the difficulty is not resolved, consult your academic adviser. It the lecturer is also your academic adviser, then proceed directly to the next step.

3. The next step is to speak with the Academic Dean. If the Academic Dean is the person involved in either of the preceding steps, please consult the Registrar.

4. Failing to resolve the difficulty through such a discussion, the student should then discuss the matter with the Principal.

5. If, after following each of the preceding steps, there is still a grievance, then submit a letter with a written explanation of the perceived grievance to the Grievance Committee which is comprised of the College Principal, two additional faculty members not involved in the grievance, and one student representative (elected by the students). If the Principal is the subject of the grievance, then his place on the committee will be taken by the Academic Dean. Within two weeks following the committee’s receipt of written explanation, the student will meet with the Grievance Committee for resolution of the perceived grievance.

6. Should the student desire to seek redress further, the student will be guided to contact the SCD to implement external mechanisms; full details of the SCD policy are available on their website -- http://www.scd.edu.au/Documents/Grievances/STUDENT%20GRIEVANCE%20POLICY%20AND%20PROCEDURES.pdf
